Tips for healthy dental care:
1) Make tooth brushing a basic part of your daily routine. Maintaining dental hygiene requires constant practice and habit.
Devote 2–3 minutes to brushing twice a day. This duration is necessary to allow the teeth to absorb the beneficial elements of the toothpaste.
Brush your teeth every night before bedtime. Saliva production decreases during the night, which can intensify the development of tooth decay.
4) Replace your toothbrush periodically. Replace it if the bristles start to fall out of the centre to prevent any damage to the gums. The ideal replacement frequency is every three to four months.
5) Incorporate flossing into your daily routine. Flossing is the only way to effectively clean between your teeth.
6) Use mouthwash to improve gum health.
7) Visit your dentist regularly, even if you are not experiencing any pain. Regular check-ups can prevent more serious problems from developing, as minor issues can be treated quickly and easily.
8) Before using it, avoid getting the toothbrush or toothpaste too wet, as the aim is not to create foam in the mouth but to apply the toothpaste directly to the teeth so that they can absorb its ingredients. In addition, the toothpaste acts as a lubricant to prevent the bristles from scratching the teeth.
9) Avoid brushing the outer and inner surfaces of the teeth vertically. Just as you would brush a piece of wood in the direction of its fibres, you should brush your teeth from the gums to the teeth. The chewing surfaces of the teeth are the only areas that can be cleaned with a vertical motion.
10) Do not apply excessive pressure to the toothbrush when brushing your teeth and gums; however, do not brush them too gently. If you apply too much pressure, you may clean your mouth, but there is a risk of tooth wear. In the second case, you are simply wasting time as you are not cleaning effectively. The correct technique requires moderate pressure.
11) Do not stop brushing if you notice bleeding gums. Continue brushing at the bleeding point, as this may be a sign of gingivitis. Consult your dentist to address the cause. Healthy gums do not bleed when you brush them.
12) Do not rinse your mouth vigorously after brushing your teeth. This washes away the toothpaste too quickly, meaning that your teeth do not have time to absorb the fluoride — especially if you brush your teeth before going to bed. The best approach is to rinse your mouth gently after brushing to allow the fluoride to remain on your teeth for as long as possible.
